Arvella Leslie "A.J." Johnson, born October 3, 1948, died on Monday, August 20, 2007 after falling ill. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Starling Johnson Sr.; son, Starling Johnson, Jr.; daughters, Lesley Johnson (Rodney); Robin Graves (Kyle); mother, Vera Thomas; brother, Bennie Collins; sisters, Viola Posey, Louise Chandler, Shirley Johnson (Dorsey); Elizabeth McCleod; father-in-law, Doris Johnson; brother-in-law, Ronnie Johnson; seven grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and co-workers. Arvella was dedicated to her work as supervisor of The Lighthouse at Patton where she was employed for seven years. Arvella will long be remembered for the joy, generosity, and laughter with which she embraced everyone. She especially shared these qualities with her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Visitation hours will be held after noon on Saturday at Franklin-Strickland Funeral Directors, McCallie Chapel. A memorial service for Arvella will be held in Michigan November 10.
